Level up chapter 9 gives the word level 3 different definitions. The first definition is a location where gameplay occurs, the second definition is a term that developers use to break up physical space in a game and the third definition is a way of counting a player's progression in a game. The fourth one is the rank given to a player based on their score. Rounds, acts, waves and maps only further complicate things and sometimes make levels not get called levels as a result.

The Trust Spectrum gives an understanding on how the design of games that involve multiple players. Trust and cooperation play a big role in multiplayer low trust games have each player to fend for themselves while high trust games make it clear that all players must work together as a team in order to win. medium trust games incorporate both types into its gameplay to be what it is.
